Davao Norte police chief calls for public support against illegal drugs

TAGUM CITY, DAVAO  DEL NORTE (PIA) — Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office Director, Col Alexander R.  Serrano Jr., has urged the public to support the police in its drive to check the proliferation of  illegal drugs  in the province.

Speaking at the Kapihan sa DavNor, Serrano encouraged the public to report to the police illegal activities including those involving drugs for immediate response of law enforcement agencies.

“Tanang illegal activities sa inyong matag lugar try to report it to your police officer para maaksyonan nato na tungod kay atong ilikay atong pamilya,  mahimong biktima aning illegal drugs labi na ining shabu,” he said during his guesting at  the Kapihan sa DavNor on March 26, 2025.

(All illegal activities in your communities, try to report them to your police officer for us to respond because we have to spare our families from becoming victims of illegal drugs, especially shabu.)

He cited the illegal drug problem  as “alarming” having noted the increasing volume of supply which, he  said, came from outside the province.

“Dinagko karon ang atong  dakop sa droga. It is alarming na medyo naa tay problema sa droga, murag daghag suplay nga nangabot,” he said.

(We are now intercepting large volume to (illegal) drugs. It is alarming that we have  a problem with drugs, which seemingly comes in large volumes.)

Shabu of  standard drug price estimated at 3.740 million pesos, was confiscated in a buy-bust operation at Purok 12, Brgy. Canatan, Asuncion, Davao del Norte on March 25, resulting in the arrest of alias “Taher,” classified as a High-Value Target (HVT), and alias “Boy,” a street-Level individual (SLI).

Reports from Philippine National Police Regional Police Office (PNP-RPO) XI  cited this as among the results of PRO-11’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

On  the other hand, Serrano in the same Kapihan as DavNor said the DNPPO will soon be deploying 10 narcotics sniffing dogs to exits and entrance police checkpoints in Davao del Norte to intensify efforts to intercept drug transport and trade.

Serrano confirmed that  the police acquisition of these narcotics dogs passed through  the approval of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) Davao del Norte.

He also shared that he had also requested Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib for units of portable X-ray machines to  detect cleverly  hidden illegal drugs in  vehicles.

During the 1st quarter meeting of the Joint Regional Task Force on ELCAC XI on March 27, PDEA XI identified Davao del Norte as one of the transit points of illegal drugs in Davao Region.  (PIA XI/JMDA)
