DAVAO ORIENTAL (PIA) — Thousands of families in Davao Oriental received P9,960 each under the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
According to data from DSWD Field Office XI, a total of 29,028 families in the towns of Tarragona, Baganga, and City of Mati in Davao Oriental province received a total of P289.12 million in financial aid from March 4 to April 2 this year.
Additional 46,667 families from various towns in the province will also receive the same amount of assistance soon.
Clarita Sarabosing, 51 years old and one of the beneficiaries from Baganga town, expressed gratitude for the cash aid from the government as their family’s livelihood was affected by the continuous rains brought by the Shear Line and Trough of Low Pressure Area (LPA) weather system early this year.
“Tungod niining tabang, makapalit nami og konsumo apil sa ubang materyales pagpaayo sa among panimalay,” Sarabosing said.
(Because of this assistance, we can buy food and other materials to repair our house.)
During the ceremonial pressing of the button for the 2024 First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 25, DSWD XI Regional Director Vanessa Goc-ong reaffirmed the agency’s mission to aid all victims of recent disasters in the region on their journey towards recovery and rehabilitation.
“With a steadfast commitment to the well-being and resilience of our communities, DSWD XI pledges to continue its vital role in fostering hope, rebuilding lives, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey toward recovery,” said Goc-ong.
Aside from the payout in Davao Oriental, a total of 57,696 families in the province of Davao Del Norte also received cash assistance totaling P574.65 million. (MLU/PIA Davao Oriental/Photos: DSWD XI))
