Davao Oriental tops ‘Chikiting Ligtas’ drive in Davao Region

CITY OF MATI, Davao Oriental (PIA) — Davao Oriental has topped in the “Chikiting Ligtas” campaign in Davao Region in the recently-concluded measles-rubella and oral polio vaccine (MR-OPV) Supplemental Immunization activity.

The province, which got the national recognition, had a 98.84% accomplishment rate in MR immunization and a 96.26% completion rate in OPV vaccination.

The exceptional performances of the province’s local government units (LGUs) were instrumental in this remarkable feat.

Based on the accomplishment rating on Chikiting Ligtas drive, Caraga and Manay municipalities placed first and second ranks, respectively, among all the LGUs in the region.

Also, Banaybanay and Baganga towns got fourth and fifth places, respectively, in the region, while the City of Mati, Lupon and Cateel also surpassed the 90% mark in MR immunization.

The high accomplishment rating was due  to the comprehensive strategies, meticulous planning, and efficient implementation of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and Davao Oriental’s City/Municipal Health Offices (C/MHOs), PDOHO led by Dr. Gracita Berguia, and health authorities, in collaboration with the barangays through their Punong Barangays, barangay health workers, and dedicated volunteers.

Community mobilization and extensive information campaigns, and active engagement of families and other stakeholders added up to said high performance rate on immunization of the province.

Dr. Reden V. Bersaldo, Provincial Health Officer II, thanked the hardworking health workers on the ground and their suppor-

tive local chief executives, whose unwavering commitment and tireless efforts were pivotal in the campaign’s success. Their dedication and diligence led to the attainment of high immunization coverage rates, ensuring the health and well-being of Davao Oriental’s residents, particularly its children.

Bersaldo also extended his appreciation to the provincial government of Davao Oriental, led by Governor Corazon T. Nunez-Malanyaon, for their unwavering support throughout the MR-OPV Supplemental Immunization Activity by providing all needed resources.

The achievements of Davao Oriental in the MR-OPV immunization campaign highlights the province’s dedication to protecting its population from vaccine-preventable diseases.
