DAVAO CITY—Farmers in the Davao Region can avail of the AVAC live vaccines against African Swine Fever or ASF as new doses of ASF vaccines are forthcoming.
Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. earlier bared that there will be a rollout of a batch of 150,000 doses after the initial rollout of 10,000 AVAC live vaccine doses. These vaccines, though, are still to be delivered to the country.
With the expected arrival of the bulk of vaccines, farmers in the regions can avail of these vaccines.
According to Dr. Armie Capuyan, Regional Head, Disease Monitoring and Surveillance, there is no exact allocation for Davao Region as these vaccines are per request basis.
The farmers can file their request with the City/Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAO). The MAO will check if the farmers have met the biosecurity requirements and then endorse the said request to the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).
“Once approved, it will be delivered sa regional offices and the implementation of the said interventions will be jointly monitored by the DA-Regional Office, the BAI, and the LGUs,” Capuyan added.
As of October 31, 2024 there are 14 municipalities in Davao Region which are considered as red zones or localities affected by ASF. Surveillance zones (yellow) in the region number around 14. There are 21 localities identified as buffer zones (pink). (PIA/RGA)
