Delivery of NFIs facilitates normalization of life in cyclones-troubled Eastern Visayas

QUEZON CITY (PIA) – Government agencies in Eastern Visayas (Region 8) have immediately delivered non-food items (NFIs) in response to the series of destructive cyclones that pummeled the region, facilitating the normalization of the lives of displaced communities hit by Storm Kristine (Trami) and Pepito (Man-yi).

The Office of Civil Defense – Region 8 (OCD-8) has delivered a total of 1,000 GI Sheets, 500 fiber cement board, 100 family kits, 500 butane stoves, and 5,000 butane canisters to displaced residents in the region.

It also said that over 129,000 evacuees have been allowed to go back to their homes.

OCD-8 was assisted in unloading the NFIs  by contingents from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

In its social media post Sunday evening, Nov. 17, the OCD-8 said that it expects NFIs will alleviate the living conditions of the affected population from the impacts of Kristine and Pepito that hit Eastern Visayas hard.

It added that the situation in the region normalized days after the onslaught of Pepito, noting that the super typhoon has left not a single casualty or missing person due swift action of the local government and the cooperation of residents in calls for preemptive evacuation. (PIA DMD)
