SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Mimaropa, in partnership with the local government unit, recently awarded land titles to 511 beneficiaries in Occidental Mindoro.

The awarding, under the Handog Titulo program, aims to provide security of tenure to occupants of alienable and disposable lands through administrative titling.

DENR explained that the program is anchored on the Republic Act 10023 or the Residential Free Patent Act. Under this law, any Filipino citizen who occupies a residential land may apply for a Free Patent Title when qualifications are met.

Individuals who have occupied residential lands, including townsites, zoned relocated areas inside a delisted military reservation or abandoned military camp, for 10 years or more can apply for rights under the said law.

According to Provincial Information Office (PIO) Occidental Mindoro’s report, 133 beneficiaries were from the municipality of Sablayan, 299 were from Sta. Cruz, 101 were from Paluan, and 48 from Abra de Ilog. (DSG/PIA Mimaropa – Occidental Mindoro)
