DENR commits support for the reopening of Nangaramoan Beach in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Cagayan (PIA) – – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Cagayan Valley has pledged its technical assistance to support the reopening of resorts and business establishments at Nangaramoan Beach in San Vicente, Santa Ana, Cagayan, following the recent demolition of illegal structures within the designated easement zone.

In a recent meeting with key stakeholders, DENR Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan assured resort owners that they will be allowed to resume operations, provided they meet the necessary legal and environmental requirements.

Director Bambalan emphasized that the DENR will be actively involved in helping the Nangaramoan Environmental Protectors Association (NEPA) with its application for a Forest Land Use Agreement for Tourism (FlagT), which covers a 5,384-square-meter area.

The agreement will empower the association to occupy, manage, and develop the area for sustainable tourism purposes, with a portion of the revenue shared with the government.

In addition to supporting the FlagT application, the DENR will assist NEPA in formulating a comprehensive Development and Management Plan and a Climate Resilience and Tourism Development Plan for the resort.

“These strategic documents will detail key actions, timelines, and strategies aimed at managing and developing the beach’s resources sustainably while fostering climate resilience,” she said.

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure sustainable tourism, the DENR will also conduct a carrying capacity study for the area, and NEPA will be reorganized into a legally incorporated entity to further strengthen the area’s management and promotion.

Through collaborative efforts, the DENR aims to ensure the responsible and sustainable development of Nangaramoan Beach, which has long been a popular destination for tourists, while also preserving its ecological integrity for future generations. (OTB/PIA Region 2 with reports from DENR)
