TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – In a bid to promote environmental responsibility and maintain cleanliness within the Regional Government Center (RGC), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 2 has distributed waste bins to government agencies operating in the area.
A total of 29 sets of color-coded waste bins — for biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable waste — were officially turned over to partner agencies following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The bins were donated by FCF Minerals Corporation as part of its environmental advocacy efforts.
Under the agreement, recipient agencies are tasked with managing and maintaining the waste bins in their respective premises. This includes ensuring regular cleaning, repainting, repairs, and the proper monitoring of waste segregation practices. In return, the agencies committed to upholding cleanliness in their designated areas.
The initiative supports the Green Spaces Program launched at the RGC in 2023, which seeks to convert open spaces into urban parks to reduce pollution, prevent environmental degradation, and foster environmental awareness among government workers and the public.
DENR Region 2 Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan emphasized the importance of collaboration in promoting sustainable practices.
“Our partnership today is a shared commitment to nurturing a regional government center that mirrors our deepest values — clean in the environment, green in practice, and responsive in service,” Bambalan said.
She also underscored that sustainable governance begins with everyday actions and institutional choices.
“When we integrate sustainable practices and responsible waste management into our daily operations, we move closer to a greener future — not only for the RGC, but also for the communities we serve,” she added.
The MOA signing ceremony was attended by more than 60 representatives from national government agencies. (OTB/PIA Region 2 with reports from DENR)
