QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) expressed its unwavering support to the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) in effectively addressing the issues on biodiversity.
“We will be guided by the able leadership and workforce of the ACB. Rest assured that the Centre can bank on the DENR’s unwavering support and dedication to the mission,” said Jhorace Tupas, senior ecosystem management specialist, Coastal and Marine Division under the DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau.
“The journey toward biodiversity conservation remains an ongoing endeavor and we are confident that as the ASEAN Member States strive to navigate the complex areas of conservation, capitalize on the current technological and financial solutions, and advocate for policies that prioritize the protection of our natural heritage,” Tupas added when he represented the agency in attending the 18th Founding Anniversary of ACB, and tree planting activity held Sunday, September 10, at the ACB Headquarters.
Tupas said the event is not only a celebration of the ASEAN’s cooperation for biodiversity but also highlights the commitment to achieving the vision of an ASEAN region where biodiversity is sustainably managed, effectively preserved, and utilized to improve people’s well-being.
Moreover, aside from the DENR, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) also reiterated its support to ACB.
“The Philippines proudly hosts the ACB – the centre of excellence for biodiversity–and we remain dedicated to supporting the efforts of ACB and fellow ASEAN Member States in preserving our natural heritage,” said Hjayceelyn Quintana, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the ASEAN H.E. and DFA Representative.
