DepeD-7 hits 100% completion rate on site repair work for 2023

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) Region 7 has reached 100 percent completion rate in their site repairs for 2023.

This was disclosed by DepEd-7 regional director Dr. Salustiano T. Jimenez during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas held Oct. 14 in Cebu City.

“Under DepEd Repair, we have a completion rate of 100 percent for the sites and a close to 50 percent completion rate for the targeted physical classroom repair,” said Jimenez.

He explained that due to the series of calamities that recently hit the region, several classrooms have been damaged and needed repair work.

“We’re supposed to repair all, but because of the calamities, instead of completing all the repairs, we again have more classrooms to be repaired,” Jimenez said.

In 2023, DepEd-7 repaired a total of 225 sites through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Of the total, 146 have already been completed, bringing to 1,149 the total classrooms that have been repaired out of the target 1,892.

Jimenezl also announced their plans for early procurement of various infrastructure for calendar year 2025, including school furniture and repair or rehabilitation of the ‘Last Mile Schools.’

A total of 1,669 tables and chairs for teachers and 74,140 tables and chairs for learners from the 196 sites across the region have been procured for next year.

There are also 78 sites with a total of 809 physical classrooms that will benefit from the repair and rehabilitation.

A total of 48 classrooms have also been procured for the 13 sites under the ‘Last Mile Schools’ program, which aims to address the gaps in resources and facilities of schools that are in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. (JJT/PIA 7 Cebu)
