SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)—The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Ilocos Region has assured that all public school teachers in the region will receive their full P20,000 Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) before Dec. 20.
This announcement comes after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and DepEd to increase the SRI allocation for teachers from last year’s incentive of P18,000.
Speaking at a press conference hosted by the DepEd Ilocos Region on Dec. 18, Assistant Regional Director Rhoda Razon expressed her gratitude for the president’s directive, which allows the SRI to be disbursed in full for the first time.
“For the past years we’re only been getting it from the department’s savings funds. That’s why we did not receive it in full,” Razon said.
“Of course we are very happy. Thank you to the President’s directive because we will get the full P20,000 SRI,” she added.
Public school teachers in the region echoed this sentiment, highlighting the incentive’s importance in supporting their personal and professional needs.
“We are thankful for this incentive. This is a big help for us teachers,” Ronald Duran, a senior high school teacher at Rosario Integrated School in Rosario, La Union, said.
The DepEd Ilocos Region currently employs 47,617 teaching personnel across its provinces, all of whom are eligible to receive the SRI.
The SRI is granted to regular government employees under Administrative Order No. 27. It recognizes their commitment and dedication to public service, particularly those in education who play a vital role in nation-building.
With this year’s directive ensuring the full SRI amount, the DepEd reaffirms its commitment to valuing the hard work of educators while boosting morale ahead of the holiday season. (CCMT/REB, PIA Region 1)
