SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)— The Department of Education (DepEd) in Region 1 is actively preparing to host several major national events in 2025, including the prestigious Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Norte.
Tentatively scheduled for May 24 to June 2, the Palarong Pambansa will bring together thousands of student-athletes from across the country.
DepEd, in close collaboration with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte and other stakeholders, is meticulously planning the logistics for this grand event.
“Procurement of necessary equipment and supplies is currently underway,” said DepEd Ilocos Assistant Regional Director Rhoda Razon.
Razon said, “We are confident that through strong collaboration with key officials and partners, we will ensure the successful hosting of these events.”
Razon emphasized the importance of showcasing the region’s unique identity.
She said, “This is a golden opportunity to highlight the talent, hospitality, and kindness of the Ilocano people, as well as the breathtaking beauty of the Ilocos Region.”
Essential venues for the Palarong Pambansa, including playing fields and billeting areas for delegates from all 17 regions, have been identified and are scheduled for inspection by the Palarong Pambansa committee.
To meet international standards, the Ferdinand E. Marcos Sports Stadium in Laoag City has undergone significant upgrades.
Darius Nieto, project development officer from DepEd Region 1, underscored the importance of safety and security.
“We are working closely with the Office of Civil Defense to ensure the safety and security of all delegates,” he said.
Beyond the Palarong Pambansa, DepEd Ilocos is also preparing to host the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) and the National Festival of Talents (NFOT) in Ilocos Sur.
“These events will not only provide a platform for our learners to showcase their talents but also serve as a showcase for the region’s stunning landscapes,” Razon stated.
She added, “We aim to leave a lasting and positive impression on visitors from across the Philippines by emphasizing the warmth and generosity of the Ilocano people.” (AMB/REB/PIA Region 1)
