DepEd Ilocos Norte joins Reading Month celeb

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Ilocos Norte (SDOIN) joins in the celebration of National Reading Month through reading activities for November.

According to Valerie Talamayan, senior education program specialist of the DepEd SDOIN, they conducted scheduled reading activities, dressing up as favorite book characters, and putting up reading nooks inside the schools that were participated by students and teachers.

“The primary goal po natin sa pag-celebrate ng Reading Month is to help develop the habit of reading and inculcate a culture of reading sa ating mga estudyante para naman madala nila when they grow up na alam nila na reading is very important,” she said.

Talamayan added that these reading programs are also a good way to prevent children from getting addicted or too dependent on mobile phones or gadgets playing online games or using social media.

She encouraged students to use their gadgets to also read electronic books or e-books.

“Para sa mga children na limited ang access sa mga books, marami na rin po kaming nabigay sa kanila na tablets through the DepEd Last Mile Schools Program, may donations din ang provincial government at other partners na mayroon nang mga offline reading materials. Nakapag-distribute rin po ang DepEd sa mga schools natin ng mga printed reading materials they can reproduce at mga magazines na pwedeng basahin,” she said.
