SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Ilocos Region is accelerating its recruitment process for teaching and non-teaching positions to improve the quality of education in schools.
DepEd Ilocos Regional Director Tolentino Aquino emphasized the department’s proactive efforts to fast-track the filling of specialized roles and strengthen the education sector.
To achieve this, the department is prioritizing the hiring of key positions, including Teacher IV to Master Teacher V, to enhance overall capacity and support quality education.
The department is encouraging Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) to produce more graduates in critical areas like Physical Education and Psychology and plans to collaborate closely with them to implement targeted programs that train educators in high-demand fields, ensuring a stronger supply of specialized skills to meet current demands.
“We are committed to improving our teachers’ career paths, ensuring they have clear opportunities for growth and development,” Aquino said during a recent episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas.
He emphasized that the introduction of an Expanded Career Progression System will guarantee more promotion opportunities, allowing educators to advance while remaining in the classroom.
Aquino stated, “No single teacher should retire at Teacher I. Teachers’ career paths should allow them to grow in stature and compensation, recognizing their dedication and expertise throughout their careers.”
This reflects DepEd’s commitment to supporting educators’ professional development.
To further support educators, DepEd Region 1 has employed 107 contract of service personnel in 149 schools, effectively removing approximately 80 percent of non-teaching duties from teachers.
This initiative allows educators to focus more on classroom instruction, creating a more productive learning environment for students.
The active involvement of school division superintendents in the hiring process helps efficiently identify qualified candidates and address staffing gaps, improving performance ratings and ensuring schools have the right personnel to meet student needs.
DepEd is committed to providing additional allowances, benefits, and professional growth initiatives to attract and retain qualified personnel.
Interested applicants and stakeholders are encouraged to visit the DepEd official website (https://depedro1.com/), the CSC job opportunities portal (https://csc.gov.ph/career/), and the DepEd Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/depedregion1) for more information on job openings and ongoing initiatives.
Through these initiatives, DepEd is taking significant steps to strengthen its workforce, enhance educational outcomes, and provide a supportive working environment for educators across the region. (AMB/AIHR/PIA Region 1)
