KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) in Soccsksargen gears up for the opening of the new school year with a renewed commitment to provide quality education for all.
On July 25, during the 2024 Abri Klase sa DepEd Dose Press Conference, DepEd Regional Director Carlito Rocafort emphasized the importance of open communication with the public to address concerns and inquiries regarding enrollment, safety protocols, curriculum updates, and school readiness.
“As we commence this academic year, we recognize that the journey ahead is still present with obstacles, but we are confident enough in our ability to navigate them together as a resilient community,” Rocafort said.
Rocarfort also expressed optimism for a productive and fulfilling school year with the support of parents, learners, and other stakeholders.
“With the support of parents, learners, and other partners, we look forward to a productive and fulfilling year ahead where we continue to uphold our commitment of merit, excellence, and holistic development,” he added.
Rocafort stated that only four schools in the region, particularly in Cotabato province, will postpone class openings due to recent flooding incidents.
He also announced that teachers’ annual cash allowance of P5,000 would be distributed starting July 29.
Teachers can use the cash incentive to support the purchase of essential teaching supplies and materials, as well as to cover internet and communication expenses for various learning modalities.
According to Rocafort, DepEd allocated over P210 million for the cash allowance of over 42,000 teachers assigned to various public schools this year.
Meanwhile, at least 855,403 elementary and high school learners in Soccsksargen have already signed up for the new school year as of July 25, the DepEd reported on Monday.
The figure represents a 70.20 percent lower turnout compared to over 1,218,588 registered learners the previous year.
But Chief Education Supervisor Glenn A. Bisnar of the DepEd Soccsksargen’s Policy, Planning, and Research Division said that DepEd aims to capture the remaining unenrolled students.
“This number is expected to increase as the school year begins. Without the submission of confirmation slips and enrollment forms, learners will not be officially enrolled, unlike in previous years that they were being carried out,” Bisnar explained. (ORVR – PIA Region 12)
