KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) in Region XII has assured inclusivity in the implementation of the Matatag Curriculum in the region during the 21st episode of Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas.
DepEd Regional Director Carlito D. Rocafort and Assistant Regional Director Kathrine H. Lotilla reiterated the agency’s commitment to provide special training for private school teachers on the K-10 curriculum upon request.
“Our DepEd division and regional office provides trainers for them [private schools teachers],” Rocafort stated.
DepEd also commits to providing educators with more productive training and programs to help them adapt to the new curriculum and effectively implement its core principles, particularly in private schools, thereby ensuring partnerships between public and private schools.
Region XII is one of the pilot implementers of the Matatag Curriculum, which reorganizes the existing K-12 curriculum by at least 70 percent.
Rocafort explained that the revised program only focuses on five key areas: language, reading and literacy, mathematics, makabansa, and good manners and right conduct.
Lotilla also emphasized the public-private school partnerships in gearing towards a comprehensive and effective education system that benefits all Filipino learners.
“Aside from our private school coordinators, we also have a monitoring evaluation team to ensure that the training we do for private school teachers ay talagang nagcomply sa (really complied with) standard ng (of) DepEd,” she said.
As a pilot area, Soccsksargen has begun implementing the Matatag Curriculum in Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 5, and Grade 8, according to Lotilla.
Nationwide, in the school year 2024-2025, the Matatag curriculum was rolled out for kindergarten, grade 1, grade 4, and grade 7. (SZT – PIA Region 12)
