DepEd Zambo Sur gears up for reopening of classes

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur (PIA) –The Department of Education (DepEd) has ramped up its preparations for the start of the school year 2024-2025 through various programs, including training for school heads and teachers and strengthening the ‘Brigada Eskwela’ across the province.

During the recent ‘Kapihan sa PIA ug DXPR’ program, School Governance and Operations Division Chief Dr. Gay A. Apduhan said that the school’s division here conducted school-based training for teachers and school heads to heighten their appropriate preparation for this school year under the MATATAG curriculum. This effort also aimed to fortify the annual preparation for school reopening, known as “Brigada Eskwela”.

“Atong Brigada Eskwela kani nga kalihokan participated kani sa atong mga partners para maandam sa sulod ug gawas sa atong tulunghaan, ma-ready ang furnitures, facilities ug dili lang ang kalimpyo kon dili eensure pod nato ang security and safety para sa atong mga bata inig sulod nila sa atong klase. Aduna pod tay preparasyon nga gihimo sa atong magtutudlo sa ilahang professional development.”  Dr. Apduhan said.

(Our partners participated in Brigada Eskwela to prepare inside and outside of our school, to prepare the furniture and facilities, and not only the cleanliness but also to ensure the security and safety for our children when they enter our class. We also have preparations made by our teachers for their professional development.)

Apduhan emphasized that the DepEd has been working smoothly before this year’s opening of classes through the National Learning Camp (NLC), which offers an informal setting where learners can freely express themselves to foster connections with the teachers and new classmates for the entire learning camp.

According to Apduhan, the teachers are still doing home visits to create strong collaboration with parents and provide reading interventions, write-shops, and reproducing learning aids for the benefit of the learners. Moreover, teachers and school heads are trained to craft a contingency plan and school learning continuity plans for alternative learning delivery mode in anticipation of inevitable calamities.

“Kailangan nato i-visit ang mga schools kung naa ba silay enhancement nga gibuhat para sa ilahang contingency plan especially nag sugod-sugod nag ulan dayun nagkakusogilabina katong mga school heads, dapat e-remind nato nga e-revisit ilaha contingency plan para mas prepared sila,” Apduhan stressed.

(We need to visit the schools to see if they have made any enhancements to their contingency plans, especially now that the rains have started and intensified. School heads must be reminded to revisit their plans to be more prepared.)

To my colleagues in the work of this mission for the children, just continue loving our school children. Do it with patience and with a heart; just do your best with the schoolchildren, and God will do the rest for you and your family,” Apduhan remarked. (EDT/HTB/KPC-GIP/PIA9-Zamboanga del Sur)
