Dgte to mark 75th charter anniversary

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Nov. 17 (PIA) — Dumaguete City will mark on Nov. 24, 2023 the start of a year-long celebration for its 75th anniversary as a charter city with a series of activities that will highlight the heritage, talents, and culture of the city.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said the 75th Diamond Jubilee of the Charter of Dumaguete City will pay tribute to the people, events, and history that made the city among the most improved and promising cities of the Philippines.

Remollo disclosed in a recent press conference that Dumaguete is now a 2nd class city, an improvement from being 3rd class based on the significant growth of its regular income and economic vitality.

He noted that the celebration is an opportunity for Dumagueteños to celebrate their shared past and foster hope for a more prosperous future.

Convenor of the 75th Charter Anniversary, Dr. Dinno Depositario, said there will be a series of activities and events to mark this milestone.

City Tourism Office Officer-in-Charge Katherine Therese Aguilar said the major events include competitions for Dumaguete Bulilit Idol and Dumaguete Teen Idol on Nov. 20, Dumaguete Folk Dance and Dumaguete Idol on Nov. 21, Dumaguete Balitaw and Balak Contest on Nov. 22, and Exhilarate 9 Featuring Manila Zest Prince Patulob and Duma Beat Dance Contest on Nov. 23.

All of these will be held nightly at Pantawan People’s Park.

On Charter Day (Nov. 24) starting at 3:00 p.m., there will be a Civic-Military Parade, Diamond Jubilee Opening Salvo, Grand Fireworks Display, and DUMA Music Festival Featuring MIDNASTY: the Homecoming Concert at Pantawan People’s Park.

There will be a 2nd Negrense National Dancesport Championship on Nov. 25 at 3:00 p.m. at Negros Oriental Convention Center and DumaKatawa! Fiesta Comedy Night featuring Donita Nose and Tekla at 8:00 p.m. at Pantawan People’s Park.

The Pre-Christmas Concert with Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and the RYC Singers will be on Nov. 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Presidencia City Hall Grounds.

The Ben & Ben Charity Concert will be staged on the evening of Dec. 2 at Pantawan People’s Park.

The 75th Charter Day of Dumaguete on Nov. 24 will serve as the opening salvo for the city’s Diamond Jubilee celebration from Nov. 23 until November 2024.
