DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Feb. 8 (PIA) — The Dumaguete City government expects 1,000 participants to join this year’s Dumaguete Triathlon on May 14, 2023.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo will mobilize all necessary resources and concerned agencies with the private sector to ensure the success of the Dumaguete Triathlon, being a national multisport event that promotes health and fitness while boosting sports tourism.

This year will be the fourth edition of the Dumaguete triathlon organized by the city since 2018, in coordination with Achtung Larga Biya.

Participants will compete in the different categories: standard distance, age-group, MTB open for men and women, and standard distance relay open.

Gun start will be at 5:30 a.m. on May 14, 2023.

The triathletes, including local enthusiasts, are expected to compete in this endurance multi-sport race, requiring them to swim for 1.5 kilometers, bike for 40 kilometers, and run for 10 kilometers.

Personnel of the Philippine National Police, Traffic Management Unit, Highway Patrol Group of Dumaguete, as well as Barangay Tanods and Emergency Medical Response Teams will be positioned at key areas on the day of the event to ensure the safety and security of all participants and the spectators.

Interested participants can visit the official Facebook page 2023 Dumaguete Triathlon for the registration link.

It is noted that Dumaguete City was awarded Organizer of the Year (LGU category) and Remollo was hailed Sports Tourism Personality of the Year during the 3rd Philippine Sports Tourism Awards in November 2019.

Dumaguete was bestowed the same distinction in 2018 for its track record in hosting local, national, and international sports events which promoted sports-tourism and drew visitors to the city. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
