BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – As the government continues to provide assistance in providing assistance to people affected by the recent tropical storm Kristine, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) assures to provide shelter assistance to families with damaged houses.
Project Development Officer III Karen Poligrates from the Public Housing and Settlements Division of DSHUD-Cordillera, shared in an interview, that this is through the DHSUD’s integrated disaster shelter assistance program(IDSAP), a post disaster initiative of the agency.
Poligrates emphasized that local government units(LGUs) play a vital role in the implementation of the program as the shelter assistance will be released upon submission from the LGUs and validation of reports.
She urged LGUs to ensure prompt submission of necessary documents for a faster and more seamless processing of shelter assistance to the affected families and individuals.
“Nakasalalay sa submission nila ng documents kung gaano kabilis or katagal ‘yung provision of the assistance kasi kailangan ivalidate din namin ang kanilang submission. Once na meron na silang data, they have to submit na para mabilis din maibigay sa mga beneficiaries sa kanilang lokalidad ‘yung assistance,” she said.
Among the documents that need to be submitted are master list of affected households, certificates of eligibility of beneficiaries, disaster reports, and the beneficiary eligibility sheet.
Poligrates also said that DHSUD is making the processing of documents easier for the LGUs.
“Lahat naman nito ay may pro-forma ang DHSUD- na binigay namin sa LGUs para hindi na po sila mahirapan, ang kailangan lang po nilang gawin, ifill-up ang mga proforma na ‘yun” she said.
The IDSAP is composed of three phases. Emergency shelter support (ESS), the first phase, is given as a one-time unconditional shelter to households with partially and totally damaged houses at the onset of disaster up to three months, to address immediate and temporary shelter needs of the beneficiaries.
Families of partially damaged houses will receive P10,000.00 while totally damaged houses will be given an assistance of P30,000.00.
This will be followed by the early recovery program four to six months after the disaster. T will and will be concluded by the rehabilitation and recovery, which is implemented seven months up to two years after the disaster.
Based on the DSWD Disaster Response Operations Management, Information and Communication report, a total of 181 houses in the region were damaged due to tropical storm Kristine with 177 partially damaged and four totally damaged.(JDP/CVBT-PIA-CAR)
