BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development-Cordillera (DHSUD-CAR) is providing financial assistance to families whose houses were damaged by typhoons and other calamities.
DHSUD-CAR Regional Director Antonette Anaban during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on September 24 reported that DHSUD has the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program which provides P10,000 financial assistance to households with partially damaged houses and P30,000 for households with totally damaged houses.
DHSUD is the chair of the Shelter Response Cluster of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Anaban said the DHSUD-CAR is working on the provision of financial assistance to 170 households affected by tropical cyclones Carina and Enteng and the enhanced Southwest monsoon.
Last year, the DHSUD gave out a rental subsidy amounting to P5.81 million to 581 families who were evacuated from their houses due to the impact of Typhoon Egay.
Aside from cash assistance, the DHSUD we also provided 300 modular tents and 500 shelter grade tarps to households that stayed in evacuation centers.
Anaban also disclosed that the Department of Budget and Management has just approved a National DRRM fund appropriation of financial assistance for the more than 26,000 families in Abra and Mountain Province whose houses were damaged by the magnitude 7 earthquake last July 2022.
The DHSUD-CAR, in close coordination with concerned local social welfare and development and local DRRM offices, already started the payout and have until the end of the year to disburse the financial assistance totaling P272 million.
To facilitate the payout of the financial assistance to the more than 26,000 beneficiaries, the DHSUD is partnering with Palawan Express, Anaban added.
The DHSUD is the 18th agency featured in the nationwide synchronized Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas where respective regional offices report their accomplishments and priority thrusts under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
