ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Eighty-two qualified household beneficiaries received P15,000.00 each from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development in the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center here.
The cash assistance is in view of the DHSUD’s Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program – Emergency Shelter Support.
The beneficiaries are the survivors of a fire incident last Feb. 27 in Barangay 7 who were transferred to Tanza Ville in Brgy. Tanza in this city barely a week after the fire razed their houses and belongings.
DHSUD 6 director Eva Maria P. Marfil led the distribution of payout as a one-time unconditional shelter assistance for those with totally damaged houses that is meant to address their temporary shelter needs following a disaster.
Marfil was joined by Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas during the payout of financial assistance.
“Ako nagapasalamat gid kay Presidente Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. kag Secretary Jerry Acuzar sang Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) sa paghatag sang shelter assistance sa mga pamilya nga nasunugan sa Barangay VII,” Dadivas said in a social media post.
(I thanked Pres. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and DSHUD Sec. Jose Rizalino “Jerry” Acuzar for the ESS to the families who are survivors of a fire incident in Barangay VII.)
He also thanked director Marfil, Roxas City Local Housing Unit (RCLHU) Head Designate Engr. Juvy Tabaranza, RCLHU Support Service Officer Marites Pimentel, and Barangay VII Punong Barangay Nilo Diestro for facilitating the realization of the assistance.
“This is a big help and I also thanked both the local and national government for the assistance,” said 31-year-old IDSAP-ESS beneficiary Eric Antioquia.
He added that the amount would be used to buy their household needs to start a new home at the government housing site.
Eric and his wife prioritized the safety of their one-year-old first-born child when the fire gutted their neighborhood.
During the activity, DHSUD 6 Public Housing and Settlements Division Officer-In-Charge Romel F. Genodia gave a brief overview of the program to the participants, highlighting the department’s role in extending shelter assistance to disaster victims, including beneficiary qualifications, and documentary requirements.
The IDSAP-ESS payout in Roxas City was the second in Western Visayas as the same assistance was also provided by the DHSUD 6 to fire survivors in Brgy. Airport, Mandurriao, Iloilo City last June.
The IDSAP, which took effect in February 2024 through the Department Order 2024 – 004, is the DHSUD’s post-disaster initiative for disaster response, rehabilitation, and recovery phases. (AGP/AAL/PIA Capiz)
