DICT-10 hosts 35th digital career expo to boost tech competitiveness

GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental (PIA) – To make the country more digitally competitive, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-10 hosted the 35th Digital Career Expo on September 30, 2024, in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

The event, organized by the ICT Industry Development Bureau (IIDB) of DICT, showcased career opportunities in ICT sectors like InfoTech and Business Process Management (IT-BPM), emerging technologies, online freelancing, and creative industries.

DICT Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue emphasized the need for Filipinos, especially the youth, to build digital skills as the global landscape evolves.

“With over 70 million digital jobs available worldwide and projections of nearly 100 million by 2030, digital careers offer high-income potential,” she noted.

The expo highlighted the Philippines’ growing presence in the global ICT sector, covering IT-BPM, tech startups, the gig economy, and emerging technologies.

However, it also underscored the need to foster innovation and adaptability to sustain long-term growth.

The passage of Republic Act 11927, the Philippine Digital Workforce Competitiveness Act, was also discussed. The law aims to develop a skilled digital workforce through infrastructure support, upskilling, and training programs in partnership with private stakeholders, preparing Filipinos for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa lauded DICT-10’s efforts in supporting digitalization and providing “Free WiFi for All” in many barangays, accelerating progress in the city.

The expo resonated with students like Rubie Cagape from Gingoog City Comprehensive National High School, who said it broadened her understanding of ICT beyond IT courses and inspired her to explore digital opportunities.

With 800 attendees, the event aimed to empower Filipino professionals by showcasing industry trends, career prospects, and economic potential in the digital sector.

As digital transformation accelerates, such initiatives are vital in preparing the workforce to meet future demands.
