DICT-10 launches LAMDAG, beacon of hope for marginalized in Ozamiz

OZAMIZ CITY, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL (PIA)–The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), in partnership with the City Government of Ozamis and the Department of Trade and Industry, unveiled the LAMDAG program, a beacon of hope for the marginalized communities in Ozamis City.

LAMDAG, a collaboration between the DICT and the local government, aims to equip scholars with a wide range of skills, from basic computer and internet essentials to advanced areas like digital marketing, graphic design, and editing.

Furthermore, the program will not just impart knowledge but also guide scholars in securing jobs and partnering with local and international clients, ultimately contributing to the city’s progress and development.

Select partner Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), City Social Welfare and Development, and enthusiastic participants graced this launch ceremony, which took place at the Session Hall of Ozamis City.

The event was attended by City Mayor, Lawyer Henry “Indy” Oaminal Jr., City Vice Mayor Simplicia “Bebie” Neri, and a full complement of 13 city councilors. The collective presence of the city’s leadership underlined the significance of the LAMDAG program, marking it as a promising turning point in Ozamis City’s journey towards inclusive digital empowerment.

DICT Region 10 Director, Sittie Rahma V. Alawi, officially opened the launching ceremony. She emphasized the urgent issue of the digital divide and the LAMDAG program as a call to action and a ray of hope for those who have fallen behind in the quick-moving digital revolution.

Oaminal took the stage to express his gratitude to the DICT for bringing the LAMDAG program to Ozamis. He highlighted the incredible opportunities that this initiative would offer to scholars and its potential to catalyze economic growth and progress in the city without chasing opportunities outside the city or province. His speech resonated with hope and a shared vision for a brighter future.

Engr. Eugene Raposala III, the Technical Operations division chief, provided an insightful overview of the LAMDAG program. He spoke of its mission to create a tech-savvy community, foster economic development, and harness the power of the gig economy. Engr. Raposala’s words ignited a sense of purpose and enthusiasm among the audience.

The heart of the LAMDAG program was unveiled as scholars from diverse backgrounds took the stage. These remarkable individuals came from marginalized sectors such as persons with disabilities (PWD), the LGBTQIA+ community, the women’s sector, farmers, Indigenous people, and out-of-school youth. Their presence embodied the spirit of inclusivity that LAMDAG seeks to champion.

The event featured inspiring speakers who shared their journeys from underprivileged backgrounds to success, facilitated not only by evolving technology but also by their unwavering determination. Their stories served as powerful testimonials to the transformative potential of the LAMDAG program.

The launch ceremony concluded with a vibrant photo opportunity, capturing the unity and enthusiasm of the participants and attendees. City Vice Mayor Bebie Neri delivered a message of hope, underscoring the transformative potential of LAMDAG for the disadvantaged sectors within the city.
