DICT brings digital literacy to women PDLs, students in Sibugay

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) conducted a two-day ICT training for women Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and criminal justice students in Zamboanga Sibugay.

A total of 30 participants joined the training, with PDLs from the Ipil District Jail Female Dormitory and students from Universidad De Zamboanga Ipil Campus actively engaging in hands-on sessions on computer basics, Microsoft Office, and Canva design.

The training aimed to build technology proficiency among women PDLs to support their rehabilitation and reintegration, while also advancing digital inclusion for justice-involved individuals.

Engineer Mark Gacutan, provincial officer of DICT Zamboanga Sibugay, highlighted the importance of the initiative in equipping PDLs and students with the digital tools needed for growth, learning, and reintegration.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to making ICT accessible to every sector of society, regardless of their circumstances,” he said.

DICT’s efforts, aligned with the administration’s commitment to inclusive development, reinforce the value of digital empowerment for underserved sectors, especially those within custodial facilities.

By providing access to ICT skills, the DICT continues to bridge the digital divide and support inclusive, tech-driven reformation.

The agency envisions more initiatives that empower, uplift, and connect every Filipino—whether they are women PDLs, students, or members of the broader community.

“Through digital literacy, we open doors to second chances and future opportunities,” Gacutan added. (EDT/RBI/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
