TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-Cordillera equipped Kalinga State University (KSU) students of and other participants with the knowledge and tools they need to safely navigate the internet.
During the Cybersecurity talks held at the KSUon Oct. 22, 2024, DICT-Cordillera Technical Operations Division chief Dr. Allan R. Lao educated the participants on the potential risks they face online and how they can protect themselves from scams and digital attacks, among other important topics, to build up their digital defenses.
“We are here to disseminate information about cybersecurity cause despite the SIM registration law, we have seen an increase duon sa number ng mga reported victims ng scam, and it is important to us na malaman ng mga estudyante, mga teachers, ng community natin what are the potential risk when online at this point in time,” Lao said.
The activity was part of the DICT-Cordillera’s Cybersecurity Awareness and DICT Programs and Services Caravan in Kalinga, aimed at promoting digital resilience as well as the Agency’s initiatives to promote the development and use of ICT in the province.
The event was one of the activities lined up for the Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October.
The DICT-Cordillera also provided trainings for Tech4Ed Center managers and trainings on basic penetration testing and Generative AI for students. The agency also held an information drive on its programs and services in the province.
Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, Governor James S. Edduba, and other officials were present to show their support in raising awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. (JDP/IOS-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
