DICT chief lauds Marcos Jr.’s approval of Digital Nomad Visa Program

MANILA, (PIA) — Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry R. Aguda praised President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for approving the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) program, describing it as a significant advancement for the Philippines’ digital economy.

President Marcos’ vision just supercharged the Philippines’ digital economy,” Aguda said. “Beyond opening our doors to global talent, we’re building the launchpad for the future of work, right here in our beautiful islands.”

Executive Order No. 86, signed on April 24, empowers the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to issue DNVs to foreign nationals working remotely for overseas employers while living in the Philippines.

This initiative aims to position the country as a top destination for digital nomads across Asia.

The DICT is committed to enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure, focusing on high-speed internet access in tourist areas and emerging tech hubs.

The Department also plans to upskill the local workforce to foster collaboration with international talent and promote inclusive growth.

Aguda emphasized the urgency of adapting to the changing work landscape, stating, “The future of work isn’t coming; it’s already here. And the Philippines is ready to lead. We don’t just want to invite our digital workers here. We are creating the conditions for them to thrive.”

The DICT is prepared to collaborate with various government agencies, including the DFA, Department of Tourism, Bureau of Immigration, and Bureau of Internal Revenue, to ensure the smooth implementation of the DNV program.

The initiative has received widespread support, with Digital Nomad Association of the Philippines Founder Orly T. Darnayla calling it a “big milestone” for the country.

Our vision for the Philippines becoming one of Asia’s top digital nomad and tech hubs is now turning into reality!” Darnayla said.

The DNV program aims not only to boost tourism but also to create an innovation-driven digital economy, attracting global talent that will enrich the local tech landscape.

This is a visa with a vision—a vision of a digital-first Philippines, powered by talent from around the world and driven by Filipinos at home. And the DICT is all in,” Aguda added. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
