CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — Around 2,000 students from nine schools across various municipalities in Oriental Mindoro participated in the digital career expo of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Held on September 27 at the Calapan City Convention Center, it is seen to be the biggest digital career expo in the province.
The event, with the theme “Navigating the Digital Frontier: Connecting Talent with Technology,” offered opportunities to engage with industry experts, explore digital career pathways, and connect with technology-driven organizations.
In her keynote address, lawyer Jocelle Batapa Sigue, who is the DICT Undersecretary for ICT Industry Development, underscored the importance of expanding digital knowledge beyond Metro Manila, emphasizing the need to reach grassroots communities.
“Bakit hindi natin dalhin ang mga ganitong gawain sa probinsya? We will bring the technological experts in the digital space… the Philippines is not just Metro Manila,” Sigue said.
Moreover, Calapan City Mayor Marilou F. Morillo expressed gratitude to DICT, highlighting the vital role of technology in generating employment.
“With technological advancement comes job opportunities,” Morillo said, noting that job creation for Calapeños is one of her administration’s top priorities.
Vanessa Deimos, an Information Systems student at Calapan City College (CCC), expressed her excitement and appreciation for the digital career expo, noting that this helped her unlock new knowledge about the digital landscape and its ever-evolving opportunities. (JJS/PIA MIMAROPA-Oriental Mindoro
