SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — Do you want to protect your signature from being used on illegal transactions or forgery by unscrupulous individuals? If yes, then apply for a Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) digital certificate.
During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) MIMAROPA encourages all to apply for a PNPKI digital certificate for signatures for faster, easier, and safer online transactions.
Regional Director Emmy Lou V. Delfin of DICT MIMAROPA explains that when an online document is signed using the PNPKI, it is considered the signee’s original signature.
“We talk about digital transformation. In fact, pwede na ngayon mag-transact, mag-sign ng mga contracts [digitally], and when we have that PNPKI…surely it’s secured na it’s the original signature of that person, either ikaw ang magpadala o ikaw ang mag-receive,” Delfin said.
This makes transactions easier, as it removes the need to send hardcopies of signed documents through a courier which can take days, she added.
Delfin underscored that digitally signing documents without the use of PNPKI can be dangerous as signatures can be easily forged.
“When we talk of PNPKI, it’s actually digitally secured…kasi maba-validate, mabe-verify ‘yung PNPKI kasi may ganong facility siya. Pero kung hindi mo ginamit [ang PNPKI], kahit yung signature mo, kayang gayahin ng kahit sino,” she stressed.
(When we talk of PNPKI, it’s digitally secured because it can be validated. But if you do not use PNPKI, your signature can be forged by anyone.)
The DICT assists in PNPKI registration and provides free training on using the technology both for government workers and private sectors.
Delfin highlighted that the use of PNPKI is free.
The PNPKI Digital Signature is one of the programs of the DICT to ensure cybersecurity.
In MIMAROPA, the DICT has issued 4,942 digital certificates and provided 524 PNPKI technical assistance.
Those who wish to avail of the program in the MIMAROPA region may visit the nearest DICT office in their province or may send an email to [email protected] for assistance.
