TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA)—The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 2 has introduced the Government Emergency Communications System-Mobile Operations Vehicle for Emergency (GECS-MOVE) to bolster the emergency response capabilities of local governments through advanced communication technologies.
In an information caravan conducted in this city recently, DICT unveiled the GECS-MOVE unit, including the Hub, which is equipped with an integrated communications system allowing a team of experts to live and work on-site.
Additionally, a dispatch unit—a self-sustained connectivity hub mounted on a heavy-duty off-road vehicle—extends the hub’s reach into disaster zones.
An off-road motorcycle equipped with communications gear further supports the crew by accessing remote and challenging terrains, such as mountaintops, using VHF equipment.
Pinky Y. Jimenez, DICT Regional Director, emphasized the importance of reliable information and rapid disaster response that can be achieved through collaborative efforts between the government and the community.
On the other hand, John Labaton, World Food Programme (WFP) and GECS-MOVE project manager, advocated for continuous innovation to enhance communication capabilities and better address community needs during disasters.
Meanwhile, Office of Civil Defense Regional Director Leon DG Rafael expressed strong support for the MOVE initiative, highlighting its role in ensuring swift disaster response and enhancing preparedness.
“With the help of information and communication technology, we can more rapidly disseminate alerts and warnings, respond to rescue calls, and save lives,” Rafael added. (PIA Region 2)
