MANILA, (PIA) — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) partnered with Lalamove Philippines to address fraud concerns amid rising reports of driver accounts being sold or shared online.
The DICT collaboration resulted to Lalamove, a leading on-demand delivery platform, enhancing its security protocols through the introduction of a facial recognition feature in its Driver App.

“Through our facial recognition feature, we can ensure that only authorized and verified partner drivers have access to the platform, creating a fair environment for all consumers,” Lalamove Philippines Managing Director Djon Nacario said.
“This initiative, supported by the DICT, reflects our zero-tolerance stance on fraudulent activities and our commitment to protecting both partner drivers and users,” he added.
The new facial recognition verification system requires all partner drivers to confirm their identity via a facial scan before accepting delivery bookings.
This initiative aims to ensure that only authorized drivers can access the platform, thereby reinforcing accountability and safety in deliveries. The facial recognition feature works alongside other monitoring systems, including manual reviews and activity trend analysis.
Drivers with mismatched information will be routinely monitored and placed on a watchlist, prompting further investigation to prevent potential misuse.
Offenders identified through these measures will face a permanent ban from the platform under Lalamove’s strict “one-hit policy.”
The company’s commitment to combating fraud is clear. Selling or sharing driver accounts is strictly prohibited.
Nacario also reassured customers that the facial recognition feature complies with the Data Privacy Act of 2012, ensuring the secure handling of personal information for partner drivers while providing peace of mind for customers.

As the holiday season approaches, Lalamove encourages users to carefully verify partner driver details—such as name, photo, plate number, and vehicle information—before releasing items.
If any discrepancies arise, customers are urged to report issues immediately via Lalamove’s in-app Live Chat and to reassign the order using the “Find a New Driver” option.
“We deeply appreciate the trust and patience of our customers, especially the small businesses that rely on us daily,” Nacario said. “Our commitment remains strong and true—to provide safe, reliable, and secure services to support livelihoods and keep deliveries running smoothly for the communities we serve.” (JCO/PIA-NCR)
