DICT launches Cyber Safety Campaign in Ifugao

LAGAWE, Ifugao  (PIA)— Department of Information and Communications Technology   Secretary Ivan John Uy and Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC) Undersecretary Alexander Ramos brought the  “Sana All Safe Online: Cyber Safety Campaign ”  to Ifugao.

The province was chosen as a pilot area for the CICC’s Cyber Safety Campaign in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAS).

Uy explained that the event aims to revive the free wifi program and increase the coverage     especially in the GIDAs; to deploy the iLGU program to digitalize the different municipalities to bring them into the digital age for easier transactions and promotion of livelihood products,  and to promote the cyber awareness campaign to protect netizens against fraud and cyber criminals to nurture cyber safe space.

The CICC led by Cybercrime Investigation Office Chief Cleo Dongga-as oriented  the participants on the cybercrime awareness program, protecting themselves in cyberspace and how to report cybercrimes or file a complaint pursuant to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The team also discussed the role of the CICC in the prevention, suppression, and prosecution of cybercrimes.

Cybercrime is any criminal activity that involves a computer, networked device, or network. It includes committing fraud, trafficking in child pornography and intellectual property, stealing identities, violating the privacy, and others.

The participants were given the chance to air their concerns and queries during the question-and-answer session   of the  information  campaign   held at the Banaue Hotel  in Banaue, and at the Provincial Capitol  in Lagawe on January 19 and 20 , 2023 respectively.(JDP/FBR-PIA CAR,Ifugao)
