DICT launches free WiFi Project in Iligan City Public Plaza

ILIGAN CITY (PIA)–The public here can now access free WiFi at Rizal Park or City Public Plaza in Barangay Poblacion in this city, following the launch of the “Free Wifi for All Project” by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy personally witnessed the event, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing digital connectivity across the nation.

The project aims to provide internet connectivity to public spaces and institutions, such as public schools and hospitals. It is DICT’s flagship initiative aimed at expediting and strengthening internet connectivity throughout the country.

Additionally, the initiative seeks to extend internet access to geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas or remote and challenging locations, including hinterland areas.

Meanwhile, Mayor Frederick Siao emphasized the strategic placement of free wifi in public spaces and hotspots across the city, ensuring convenient access for Iligan residents.

“Ngano gibutang sa public areas? Para easy accessibility sa mga kabatan-onan nato. Daghan kaayong mga pamilya diri sa Iligan nga walay access sa free WiFi [Why is it placed in public areas? It is for the easy accessibility of our youth. Many families here in Iligan do not have access to free WiFi],” he said.

The program has already been implemented in three key locations in the City, including the City Hall Complex—Anahaw Amphitheater, Don Gregorio Lluch Memorial Hospital, and Barangay Digkilaan. (LELA/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
