DICT promotes digitization for faster gov’t transactions in Abra

Representatives from the national line agencies and local government units in Abra participate in the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) forum led by the Department of Information and Communications Technology in Bangued, Abra recently.

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – Faster government transactions was promoted among various government offices in Abra during the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-led Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) Advocacy forum.

DICT-Abra Provincial Officer Rufino Cabato explained that the forum aims to promote and encourage government offices to adopt various Information and Communications Technology (ICT) such as the PNPKI for legitimate and secured online transactions.

“We want to disseminate these programs for the purpose of digital transformation na one of the aim of the national government,” he stressed.

He said that the PNPKI is a technology that ensures users of public networks can securely exchange data and information online. It makes use of digital certificates and signatures to authenticate the source of data such as an email or online transaction.

The PNPKI also makes sure that the email or online transaction is not changed or tampered during transit.

“Meron online registration to apply for PNPKI, hanapin n’yo lang yung ORS PNPKI. It is for free as long as you have the requirements of the PNPKI,” he said.

Requirements include the Philippine national ID. Those who do not have national IDs, a birth certificate or valid Philippine passport and UMID or any two valid government-issued IDs may do.

During the one-day forum, representatives from national line agencies and local government units also participated in the discussion on cybersecurity, data privacy, and the eGov app which is an online one-stop-shop to pay government bills and other transactions.

The DICT went around the different provinces and cities of the region to advocate for digitization towards faster and more secure government transactions and services. (JJPM, PIA-CAR, Abra)
