DICT provides free Wi-Fi, emergency comms in SCUAA

CAMIGUIN (PIA) — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) ensured reliable connectivity and emergency communications for the 2025 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games.

“Through the Free Wi-Fi for All Program, DICT Camiguin provided essential connectivity services to support the event’s secretariat, e-games, and athletes. The reliable internet access enabled smooth communication, digital coordination, and real-time reporting throughout the duration of the games,” said DICT provincial officer James Sagocsoc.

In partnership with Camiguin Polytechnic State College (CPSC), DICT deployed Starlink units at key locations, especially at e-sports venues, to maintain high-speed connectivity for online gameplay and coordination.

To strengthen safety protocols, DICT also activated a standby Radio Communications System, linking the island directly to the mainland region through the Regional Disaster Network. This system served as a backup channel for emergency response.

“This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to public service and demonstrates a strong partnership between the academe and DICT, working together to bridge the digital gap and to better serve the nation,” said CPSC President Macario B. Oclarit.

With the partnership, Sagocsoc said the DICT and CPSC demonstrated the effectiveness of collaboration in using digital solutions to improve public service, support local events, and promote inclusive access to technology. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
