TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) –The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-Cordillera awarded 27 Starlink internet to various local government units in the province on February 4, 2025 at the Kalinga State University.
The project is in line with the government’s free Wi-Fi program, which aims to improve internet connectivity in public places across the country.
DICT-CAR Regional Director Reynaldo Sy said Starlink technology, a high-speed internet developed by SpaceX, provides a more reliable solution for free Wi-Fi access in far-flung places where there is little to no access to the internet.
“Sa tulong ng bagong teknolohiya ng Low Orbit Satellite or Starlink, masosolusyunan na po natin ang problema sa connectivity. Bukod sa 27 units na naibigay natin ngayon, may 60 pa pong parating,” Sy said.
Governor James Edduba expressed his appreciation for the project, saying that the initiative will bridge the gaps in communication, education, and public service in the province.
“[The project] ensures that no community is left behind as we work towards a more digitally connected Kalinga,” he said.
