DICT sustains ICT training, learning initiatives for youth

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will continue to provide ICT training and learning sessions for the youth to improve their knowledge and skills in technology, its director proclaimed.

On June 25, in celebration of National ICT Month, the DICT co-organized with the city government of Calamba, showcased local and global market opportunities of various ICT-enabled industries such as the IT-BPM industry, emerging technologies, online freelancing industry, and the creatives industry during the Digital Careers Expo CALABARZON, held at University of Perpetual Help System DALTA-Calamba Campus.

DICT IV-A Regional Director Felix Tabanao, Jr. said their programs reflect the government’s commitment to bolstering cyber-community awareness and knowledge among the younger generation.

“All ICT-related learning sessions and activities will be sustained by the DICT. This is part of our government’s programs, especially for our youth, aimed at enhancing their knowledge and consciousness within the cyber-community”, he said.

The event likewise showcased a range of digital work opportunities available to Filipino talents, highlighting the potential benefits for those interested in pursuing careers in this sector.

As the government continues to roll out initiatives to enhance digital connectivity and foster technological innovation for Filipinos, the DICT said it is vital to nurture the next generation of digital leaders.

In support of RA 11927, or the Philippine Digital Workforce Act, the DICT is committed to enhancing the skills and competitiveness of the Philippine workforce in human, digital technology, and innovation.

Alvey Theodore Gonzales, a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) student from Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba shared how the expo helped him explore and appreciate the different industries and creatives in the said field.

“It helped me decide on a future career in ICT or any computer technology-related field,” he said.

Tabanao reflects on the enthusiasm and participation of students in ICT initiatives, reflecting a promising future where technology catalyzes inclusive growth and development across the Philippines. (JD,CH/PIA-4A)
