DICT told to focus on Common Tower Program

MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy to prioritize the department’s Common Tower Program (CTP).

The program will further enhance the delivery of government services, President Marcos said.

“Focus on the Common Tower [Program] because we will be serving more people through that,” the President said during a meeting with Uy at Malacañan Palace on Tuesday.

The meeting was held to discuss programs and projects of DICT.

From around 250 government systems, the Marcos administration is now managing a total of 1,277, significantly improving service efficiency through digitalization.

In his presentation, the DICT chief assured President Marcos of uninterrupted and more efficient operations for renewing 15,715 Free Wi-Fi access point sites at PhP6 billion.

He added that PhP1.5 billion could be allocated for new sites and other initiatives, including the CTP.

Uy said the CTP is expected to serve at least 404,600 direct beneficiaries and an estimated 2,023,000 indirect beneficiaries. (PND)
