DICT trains Calapan PDLs on generative AI, skills enhancement

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in collaboration with the Multimedia Arts Association of the Philippines–MIMAROPA and Cureyouus Creatives trained Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) of the Calapan City District Jail.

The event, held on July 15, focused on  generative AI and skills enhancement on air dry clay, bead accessories, and crochet making .

The training introduced innovations in technology, focusing on generative AI, which includes Adobe Firefly tools that the PDLs may use to generate new ideas and images.

Meanwhile, the skills enhancement was facilitated by Marianne Alaraz, the founder of the Cureyouus Creatives.

She discussed how to start crocheting using yarn and a hook, followed by a workshop on bead accessories and air-dry clay.

In her message, DICT MIMAROPA Regional Director Emmy Lou Delfin said that the importance of technology will help the inmates to produce job opportunities and possibilities.

“This is part of our commitment to develop areas in accessing technology. After all, technology should not only be enjoyed by a few but should be by all,” said Delfin.

In a press release, DICT said that this new experience gained by the PDLs “makes it one of the stepping stones to help them be still included in the new knowledge and opportunities that our society brings.” (AS/PIA MIMAROPA-Oriental Mindoro)
