DICT’s 169 operational centers in MIMAROPA to advance digital literacy, inclusivity

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — A total of 169 digital transformation centers (DTC) have already been launched in the MIMAROPA region by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to provide digital access to the public.

During the November 19 Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, DICT MIMAROPA Regional Director Emmy Lou V. Delfin said that this initiative marks a major step in advancing digital literacy and inclusivity, especially in the most underserved areas in the region.

“The move is part of the government’s broader initiative to bridge the digital divide and provide rural communities with access to critical ICT resources, training, and services,” she said.

In her presentation, Delfin reported that the centers, which will serve as hubs for digital skills development, entrepreneurship, and access to government services, aim to empower local populations by equipping them with the tools necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The DTCs are strategically located in the provinces of Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan, making technology and digital resources more accessible to residents.

The centers will also serve as accessible points for local residents to avail themselves of government services online, facilitating smoother access to services such as applying for permits, licenses, and benefits under various government programs.

Delfin said that the project is a crucial part of the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to foster inclusive growth and digital empowerment across the nation.

“We are giving Filipinos the tools they need to create opportunities for themselves and by making digital transformation accessible in every corner, especially in remote areas” Delfin explained.

The DICT has committed to continue its efforts to promote digital literacy and expand the reach of its digital transformation programs to other parts of the region. (ALG/PIA MIMAROPA)
