DAVAO CITY—The City of Digos was awarded as the overall most competitive component city in Davao in the regional awarding of the Department of Trade and Industry’s Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index held November 7 at SMX Davao during the Davao Innovation Summit.
Digos City during the August 23 national awarding held in Manila, was named as the second overall competitiveness ranking among the country’s component cities.
In his speech at the SMX Davao Mayor Josef F. Cagas recalled the achievement of Digos from the time he began as the city Mayor.
“When I took office in 2019, the city of Digos was struggling at the bottom ranking 89th among the 112th component cities in the Philippines, recognizing this urgent need for change we built together targeted projects and programs through our 10 springboard projects for development, coupled with the city’s initiatives to boost competitiveness,” Mayor Cagas recalls their journey.
He said through LGU’s persistence Digos was named as the most improved component city in 2021.

“Our unwavering commitment propelled us to new heights as the top two most competitive component city in the Philippines out of 116 component cities,” the Mayor said.
He said their continued quest of excellence is evident in the different awards it received in the CMCI.
In the region, Digos City was named as the most improved LGU component city, second place component city for economic dynamism, second for government efficiency (component city category), number one in infrastructure (component city), number in resiliency and innovation.
“This award inspires us to do more for our people to make our community better and sustainable,” Mayor Cagas said. (RGA/PIA Davao)
