DILG completes 4 farm-to-market roads in remote Nueva Vizcaya town

AMBAGUIO, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the local government of Ambaguio have completed four farm-to-market road projects to boost  agricultural production of upland farmers in this remote municipality.

These projects include the 200-meter Tadyukong-Tuplac access road in Barangay Dulli, the 220-meter Banihal–Canayawan-Nanlahyan road in Barangay Ammoweg, the 210- meter Tehned-Pahipi road in Barangay Camandag, and the 175-meter Bahug-Binalhi-Gaha in barangay Napo.

Catherine Allam-Miranda, DILG provincial director, said the infrastructure projects were funded through the Local Government Support Fund–Support to Barangay Development Projects of the DILG for 2022 amounting to P4 million each.

“This is part of the government’s anti-insurgency program by providing access roads in the remote communities, especially for the farmers to shorten their travel time in transporting their produce to the marketplaces,” Miranda said.

The projects were recently inspected by members of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) of the province in coordination with the local officials of Ambaguio.

Walter Dulnuan, 49 and a farmer in Barangay Camandag, said the projects will inspire upland farmers to produce more agricultural products.

Upland farming is the major source of livelihood among villagers in Ambaguio town where root crops and vegetable products are transported to various market outlets.

“Before these projects were implemented, our farmers were facing difficulties in bringing their products to the nearest markets because of the poor road conditions. With these constructed roads, our farmers can now bring their products faster with ease and without fear of being wasted,” Dulnuan said.

He further urged the national government to pour in more funds to transform other road areas into a fully-developed road network linking the upland farm areas to the marketplaces.
