BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The national government through the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) continues to provide assistance to local government units for the implementation of their priority programs and projects to help ensure effective delivery of essential programs and services to the people down to the community level.
During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on Tuesday (July 30), DILG – Cordillera Regional Director Araceli San Jose shared that the DILG has the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) program which aims to enhance the financial capabilities of LGUs in delivering essential services and in executing their key programs and projects.
For fiscal year 2022, there were 155 LGSF projects approved, of which 145 were already competed. Projects include roads and bridges; day care centers; evacuation centers; disaster risk reduction and management -related programs and equipment; flood control/slope protection; multi – purposed building and facilities; public market; municipal building and facilities; water supply system; street light/electrification, and financial assistance to indigents. For this year, there are six additional LGSF projects approved and ongoing that include a water supply system, a multi – purpose building and facility, an evacuation center and an information, communication and technology system.
From 2022 to 2024, the DILG-CAR data showed a total of P1.25 billion LGSF -funded projects funded in the region.
At the national level, a total of P33.79 billion was invested to LGUs all over the country. San Jose also shared that the DILG has the Support to Barangay Development Project (SBDP), which is among the priority program of the government and aims to bring the needed infrastructures and social services to geographically isolated barangays and former communist conflict-affected areas.
Since 2022, the SBDP has provided around P435.13 million funding to 133 projects in 115 barangays in the Cordillera region, benefitting around 100,000 individuals through the projects that include farm-to-market roads, health stations, water sanitation system, school buildings and rural electrification.
“The DILG strives to enable our LGUs such as barangays sa pamamagitan po ng ating SBDP. This is the government’s program that is dedicated to prioritizing the advancement and provision of basic services sa ating mga barangays that have been affected by conflict perpetrated by the communist terrorist groups,” San Jose stressed.
The DILG-CAR joined the other DILG regional offices in a nationwide simultaneous Kapihan media forum to report on the department’s accomplishments and its priority thrusts and programs under the Bagong Pilipinas brand of governance of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
For the Cordillera Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, San Jose was also joined in the panel by Police Regional Office-CAR Regional Director PBGEN David Peredo Jr, Bureau of Fire Protection-CAR Regional Director FSSupt Robert Pacis, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-CAR Regional Director Kenneth Bid – ing, who also provided accomplishment reports of their respective offices under the Marcos administration.
