ILOILO CITY (PIA) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 6 holds the regional awarding ceremony for the Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards (LTIA) and Search for the Outstanding Barangay Tanod (SOBT) on October 23, in this city.
The activity is in line with the 33rd anniversary of the Republic Act No. 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991 with the theme “LGUs sa Bagong Pilipinas: Smart. Resilient. Driven.”
“It is only fitting that in this month-long celebration we also recognize the outstanding contributions of our local heroes who work tirelessly to uphold peace, safety and justice in their communities,” said DILG 6 Regional Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero in his message.
The LTIA is a recognition program of DILG established through Executive Order No. 394, series of 1997, to promote excellence and recognize their outstanding contributions to attain the objectives of the Katarungang Pambarangay (KP).
The SOBT, which was initiated by the Regional Management Coordinating Council composed of DILG, NAPOLCOM, PNP, BFP and BJMP, recognizes the exceptional performance of barangay tanods.
Since its inception in 2008, this program honors the unsung heroes of the communities whose vigilance, courage and dedication have safeguarded the neighborhood.
Meanwhile, Police Regional Office 6 Regional Director Brigadier General Jack L. Wanky recognized, in his keynote speech, the support of the lupong tagapamayapa and barangay tanods which he personally experienced during his tenure as chief of police of several localities in the region.
“Sa nagligad nga tatlo ka dekada, nakita kag nabatyagan naton ang daku nga papel sang lupong tagapamayapa kag barangay tanod sa pagpatuman sang kalinong kag katawhayan sa komunidad. We, in the Philippine National Police, could attest that many of our efforts to keep the peace and order would not have been made possible sans the support, cooperation, and collaboration of these sectors,” Wanky noted.
(In the part three decades, we have seen and felt the significant role of lupong tagapamayapa and barangay tanod in the implementation of peace and order in the community. We, in the Philippine National Police, could attest that many of our efforts to keep the peace and order would not have been made possible sans the support, cooperation, and collaboration of these sectors)
