DILG Secretary Remulla: Gov’t working ‘as fast as possible’ to help Typhoon Kristine survivors

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Marcos administration is mobilizing all available resources to provide swift assistance to victims of Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Kristine (Trami), which has left widespread flooding and devastation across the Philippines.

Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla, in a live televised interview over PTV 4’s Balitang Pambansa on Thursday, October 24, assured the flood survivors that the government is working ‘as fast as possible’ to bring relief and support to those most affected.

“Huwag ho kayong mag-alala, the government is on top of it,” Remulla emphasized, highlighting the government’s commitment to a rapid and comprehensive response.

Search and rescue teams have been deployed to Naga City, one of the areas hardest hit by the typhoon, with an emergency field hospital expected to arrive by air tomorrow to provide additional medical support.

The DILG, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has deployed resources to affected areas, including food, water, and shelter.

“Kaya po nag-declare ng wala pasok sa lahat para wala ng lumabas ng bahay ngayon. Ang DPWH naman po ay fully deployed naman, 100% na ang kanilang deployment rate, on standby na po sila [at] ang road clearing operations nila ay 24 hours, hindi sila natigil kahit malakas ang ulan,” Remulla said.

The DPWH is working around the clock to clear roads and ensure access to affected communities.

The Department of Energy is also working to restore power in Naga, with resources deployed to affected electric cooperatives.

“Ang supply ng kuryente ay hindi naman problema. Ang problema natin—according to Secretary of Energy ay in constant touch siya sa mga electric cooperatives na affected. Naka-deploy na rin ang lahat ng resources nila and we should have power back in Naga in no time,” the DILG chief added.

Immediate relief

The President has instructed all government agencies to prioritize the safety and well-being of citizens, with a focus on providing immediate relief and support to those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

The government’s efforts are focused on ensuring that all affected communities receive the necessary assistance and support to recover from the devastating impact of Typhoon Kristine. (PIA DMD)
