DILG to pilot-test ‘Kwarto ni Neneng’ project in 2 Nueva Vizcaya towns

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will be implementing the “Kwarto ni Neneng” project in two towns of the province in a bid to curb the rising rape cases in the region.

Under DILG Memorandum Circular 2024-033, the “Kwarto ni Neneng” assists the project beneficiaries in building safe and secure living spaces.

The “Kwarto ni Neneng” pilot towns in the province are  Quezon and Dupax del Sur.

“The project aims to provide separate rooms for beneficiaries’ households to ensure the separation of males and females,”  Flordelina Granada, provincial social welfare and development officer said.

According to Granada,  victims of violence, including acts of lasciviousness and rape, often live in homes with only one room, or “shared rooms,” which can increase the risk of said crimes, especially when male family members are under the influence of alcohol.

She said this initiative is expected to help reduce cases of violence against women and children in the province.

Granada said the “Kwarto ni Neneng” project is also supported by the provincial government through the provision of free legal services and educational assistance to the victims of violence until they graduate and rebuild their lives.

Granada made the report during the recent joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), and the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC). (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya
