DIPOLOG CITY (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry-Zamboanga del Norte field office is spearheading the Dipolog Swap and Share initiative, a weeklong sustainability campaign running from March 7-14 at the DTI-ZDN office and other participating agencies within the Government Complex, Sta. Isabel, Dipolog City.
The initiative is part of the global observance of World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, where the Philippines joins more than 100 member countries of Consumers International in advocating for sustainable consumer practices under this year’s theme, “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles.”
The campaign aims to promote sustainable lifestyles by encouraging the community to reuse, repurpose and exchange items rather than discarding them.
Participants can donate clothing, books, household items, gadgets and other reusable materials while also selecting items donated by others.
DTI-ZDN Provincial Director Estrella Roda emphasized the importance of community involvement in fostering sustainable practices.
“We invite everyone, including business establishments and local agencies, to take part in this initiative. This is an opportunity to practice sustainability in our daily lives by reducing waste, promoting a circular economy and supporting our community,” Roda said.
Participants can bring gently used items, swap them for something they need, or simply donate to help others.
By encouraging the exchange and donation of items, the initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability but also fosters a spirit of generosity and community support.
The initiative provides an opportunity for individuals to declutter responsibly while allowing others to acquire much-needed items at no cost.
Aimee Cris S. Digamon, senior trade and industry development specialist, highlighted that this initiative is more than just an exchange of goods.
“This is about social responsibility—being mindful of our consumption habits, extending the lifespan of items and ensuring that reusable materials don’t go to waste,” she explained.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to visit the DTI-ZDN office from March 7-14 during working hours to donate and swap items.
The Dipolog Swap and Share initiative serves as a concrete step toward sustainable living by fostering a culture of mindful consumption and environmental responsibility. (EDT/PJF/CJH/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
