Disaster-hit state workers entitled to 5-day special emergency leave — CSC

MANILA (PIA) — The Civil Service Commission (CSC) is reminding heads of government agencies to implement a grant of five-day special emergency leave for government employees affected by Super Typhoon “Carina” and the enhanced southwest monsoon.

CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada said government workers affected by natural disasters are entitled to the five-day leave under CSC Memorandum Circulars from 2012.

MC 16, s. 2012 clarified that special emergency leave under MC 2, s. 2012 shall be granted to employees affected by natural calamities after Ondoy,” Lizada explained.

The five-day special emergency leave can be granted based on a declaration of a state of calamity by the President or a local government council, as provided in the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.

On Wednesday, July 24, the Metro Manila Council placed the National Capital Region under a state of calamity after Super Typhoon “Carina” and the enhanced southwest monsoon caused widespread damage across the region.

Lizada said government agencies should implement the five-day leave policy to support their employees affected by the calamity. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
