KALIBO, Akan (PIA) — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Public Employment Service Manager under the Aksyon Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund, distributed financial assistance to distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and members of their families.
The distribution was spearheaded by DMW Region VI OIC-Regional Director Glenda Aligonza, Joseph Areno, Chief Labor and Employment Officer of DMW Region VI, and Vice Gov. Reynaldo Quimpo.
Quimpo expressed his gratitude in his message and emphasized how helpful this is to Akeanons.
“Batyag naton nga ginatatap gid kita it atong national government paagi sa Department of Migrant Workers,” he said/
(We could feel that our national government indeed cares for us through the Department of Migrant Workers.)
The financial assistance is a one-time immediate cash financial grant given to qualified beneficiaries.
“Gina pasaeamatan gid naton ag gina kalipay ro raya ngara nga pag abot it bulig sa atong mga kasimanwa,” Quimpo stressed.
(We appreciate and are indeed happy for such assistance for our constituents.)
It included OFWs who are experiencing an economic downturn due to natural disasters or human-induced emergencies, human trafficking victims, and other unfortunate situations.
Meanwhile, Aligonza assured that DMW will continuously collaborate with the Aklan province to implement more programs for OFWs.
She emphasized that the cash grant ensures the beneficiaries have financial resources to cope and recover from their distress.
“Bulig ina sang aton gobyerno para matagaan kamo sang pangabuhian niyo diri,” Aligonza said.
(That is assistance from the government to provide you with your livelihood here.)
Aligonza specifically discussed how the amount of financial assistance varies depending on the cases and situation of an OFW.
Under Department Order No. 05, series of 2024, the standard amount of assistance, depending on the situation of concerned OFWs and their families, is P50,000.00 to P75,000.00. (AGP/SQP/PIA-Aklan with reports from Chantal Jade V. Tolores, DOLE-GIP)
