DMW XI expands regional migration network

DAVAO CITY – The membership of the Regional Migration Network has been expanded taking in some key government agencies, recruitment agencies, and military and law enforcement entities, all dedicated to enhancing the welfare and protection of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Davao Region.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Region XI has led the historic signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Commitment (MOC) on December 20, which formally welcomed additional members to the network.

The new members include the Commission on Population and Development (CPD), the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao- Armed Forces of the Philippines, Coast Guard District Southern Mindanao, and 23 Philippine Recruitment Agencies (PRAs).

In its social media post, DMW XI stated that the “expanded network is poised to create a stronger, more coordinated framework to address the needs of OFWs, from recruitment and deployment to reintegration, ensuring a safer and more ethical migration process.”

“The commitment of these new members signifies a strengthened, unified approach to migrant welfare, ensuring that the Davao Region remains a key player in protecting the rights and well-being of Filipinos abroad,” the agency said.

DMW XI explained that PAO, NFEM-AFP, and Coast Guard are set to enhance coordination and information-sharing, while conducting community awareness campaigns and providing case buildup support for illegal recruitment cases.

The CPD’s role, meantime, focuses on conducting research related to the social impact of international migration and developing a shared database of OFWs and their families in the region.

The partnership with the PRAs is expected to bring several initiatives aimed at improving the migration process, including prioritizing Pre-Migration Orientation Seminar (PMOS) completers in recruitment, offering incentives, and covering critical costs and subsidies.

The DMW XI, on the other hand, will be streamlining the OEC issuance process.

“This collaboration aims to build a robust system of ethical recruitment and deployment that will better safeguard the rights and welfare of OFWs throughout their migration journey.” (CLC/PIA Davao/DMW XI)
